After rallying to end the best quarter in decades on Tuesday, U.S. stocks were set to open slightly lower on Wednesday, as futures on the three major benchmark indexes were down in early trading. Dow YM00, -0.66% futures were 1% lower, while S&P 500 futures ES00, -0.48% slipped 0.6% and Nasdaq NQ00, -0.32% futures were 0.5% lower.
It is set to be a shaky start to the quarter on Wednesday after U.S. stocks wrapped up their best quarter in decades. U.S. stock futures pointed lower in early trading. The Dow DJIA, +0.84% booked its best quarter since 1987, while the S&P 500 SPX, +1.54% posted its best performance since 1998 and the Nasdaq Composite COMP, +1.87% since 1999, as the economy began to reopen after the coronavirus lockdown. The S&P 500 second-quarter gain of 20% makes it the fourth-best quarter since 1950, Following the top 10 best quarters since 1950, the index has climbed every time in the next quarter with an average 8% jump.
