Last week Thursday, Sony Corp (T:6758) said it would be broadening its application by making its cash-cow image sensors smarter, seeking to reduce their reliance on a saturated smartphone market.
The world's first image sensor has been developed by the company with an integrated artificial intelligence (AI). It can perform tasks such as determining the size of a crowd, scanning barcodes, and monitoring a driver's drowsiness - all in a single chip.
The image-sensing chip stacked with the AI processor can extract and process data without sending it to the cloud or somewhere else. Sony (NYSE:SNE) said that it eliminates transmission latency and reduces power consumption as well.
Sony Corp ADR (SNE) today is trading at $64.01, up by +$0.38 or by +0.55%.
