20% increase in residential natural gas prices as of September

A hike announcement from Boru Hatları ile Petrol Taşıma AŞ (BOTAŞ); It was stated that an average of 20.4 percent increase was made in the residential tariff, 47.6 percent in SMEs, 50.8 percent in the industrial tariff and 49.5 percent in the tariff for electricity generation purposes, which will be valid as of September.

In the announcement regarding the September tariff on BOTAŞ's website, it was stated that despite these increases, more than 80 percent support continued to be provided to consumers, especially in natural gas used in residences. While it was stated that natural gas is among imported energies and more than 99 percent of it is supplied from foreign supply sources within the framework of international agreements, it was stated that high increases occurred in natural gas prices in global energy markets due to the increasing gas demand as the effect of the pandemic decreased in the world. According to the independent publishing organization Domestic Energy Price Index and EUROSTAT data, the lowest priced natural gas among European countries is used in Turkey in residential and industrial organizations, the statement said: "As of September 1, 2022, it has unfortunately become necessary to make a regulation in natural gas sales prices in a way that will minimally affect our consumers within the framework of possibilities. In this context, effective as of September 1, the final sales prices of natural gas used in residences have been increased by an average of 20.4 percent, the final sales price of natural gas used in SMEs by an average of 47.6 percent, the final sales price of natural gas used in industry by an average of 50.8 percent and the final sales price of natural gas used for electricity generation by an average of 49.5 percent."
