The U.S. has decided to apply a 25 percent customs tax on French products. Accordingly, the country will impose customs duties on French products worth approximately $ 1.3 billion. The US Trade Representative Office has announced that France will add 25 percent customs tax to French products worth approximately $ 1.3 billion, in retaliation for the digital service tax that France brings to some American technology companies. In the statement made by the office, it was pointed out that the digital service tax imposed by France is a "discriminatory" application and restricts the US trade. In the declaration that it was decided that a 25 percent customs duty will be imposed on the French product, which is worth $ 1.3 billion, in retaliation, the said customs tariff will be applied on January 6, 2021. In the announced statement, it was stated that products such as cosmetics and handbags will also be subject to this tariff. Among the tax-affected companies in France are big technology companies such as Google, Facebook, Apple, and Amazon. The United States stated that the tax brought by France was incompatible with international taxation policies and launched an investigation on the grounds that it brought unfair taxes to US companies.
