Airport Metro Project Manager Murat Cebeci made a statement to the AA correspondent on the issue. Cebeci gave information about the line made by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, which is planned to be opened in April 2021.
Turkey's 37.5-kilometer line will be specified as the 'fastest', and it is said that the line was %75 complete. Stating that the line in question will start from Gayrettepe and pass through Beşiktaş, Şişli, Kağıthane, Eyüpsultan and Arnavutköy, Cebeci said:
“The study includes 75 kilometers of tunnel construction, the rough construction of 9 stations, spring, emergency escape and service station structures. Our line superstructure works, fine construction and electromechanical assembly activities continue.”
Cebeci, who said that 4,600 personnel works in 24-hour shifts in the project carried out under the responsibility of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, General Directorate of Infrastructure Investments and the contractor of KKC Marmaray, stated that they plan to complete the project within the targeted time.
Cebeci gave the following information:
“For the first time in this project, the signaling works are completed by a national signaling company, and the domestic production of the trains to be operated in the facility is aimed at 60 percent nationality. When completed, it will be one of Istanbul's pride projects in terms of traffic and transportation. With other lines, there will be a connection from Gayrettepe station to the Great Istanbul Tunnel Project, Yenikapı-Taksim-Hacıosman metro line and Metrobus line, from Kağıthane station to the Kabataş-Mahmutbey metro line, from the Istanbul Airport metro station to the High Speed Train line. Current speed limit of subway is 80 kilometers per hour in Turkey. This will be the first subway that will run at 120 kilometers per hour in Turkey. It will reduce the travel time between Gayrettepe and Istanbul Airport to approximately 30 minutes.”
Stating that the part from Kağıthane to the terminal station of Istanbul Airport is planned to be opened in April 2021, Cebeci continued as follows:
“Gayrettepe-Istanbul Airport line is one of the biggest transportation projects of our country, which includes many 'mosts'. Because this 37.5 kilometer double-track tunnel in Turkey's longest and fastest 120 kilometers in an underground line. With 10 tunnel boring machines working simultaneously, tunnel excavations are carried out at a record speed and if it is opened on the planned dates, it will be the metro line to be opened in the fastest time considering the route length.”
