300,000 Workers Sent to Quarantine at iPhone Factory in China
Covid-19 panic in China. Covid-19 cases have emerged among workers at the Taiwanese company Foxconn's factory in Hınan province, one of the largest facilities where Apple's smartphone iPhones are produced. Pandemic protection measures have therefore been put in place, making daily life difficult for workers.
Chinese social media was shaken by the epidemic measures in the production facility. In the posts made, it was claimed that the facility, where approximately 300 thousand workers work, started "closed circuit" production as of the first week of October, the campus was closed with metal barriers, eating in cafeterias and cafeterias was prohibited, and workers were only allowed to go to their dormitories by using certain routes on the campus.
Workers in quarantine have complained about the lack of adequate food and health care, while social media posts raising the problems have been censored.
"For a small number of employees affected by the outbreak, Foxconn is providing the necessary safeguards for life sustainability, including material needs, psychological support and prompt feedback, in accordance with local epidemic prevention policies," Foxconn said in a statement.
Apple has not yet commented on the issue.
Although the number of cases is small and most of them show no signs of illness, the use of quarantine measures indicates that China will insist on strict epidemic control measures called "zero cases".
