694 Million Tons of Rare Earth Element Discovered in Eskisehir
Fatih Dönmez, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, said, "In our studies that started in 2011, 125 thousand 193 meters of drilling was carried out in a total of 6 years. 59 thousand 121 samples were collected from the field. These were analyzed and as a result of the analyzes, 694 million tons of rare earth elements were discovered. With this discovery, it became the second largest reserve field in the world."
The world's second largest reserve discovery was realized in Eskişehir. The reserve of 694 million tons of rare earth contains 17 different earth elements. This discovery took the second place in the world after
China's 800 million tons of reserves.
Rare earth elements can be used in more than 20 areas, from fiber optics to satellite communications, from smart missiles to fuel cells.
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Dönmez visited ETIMADEN Beylikova Fluorite Barite and Rare Earth Elements Operations Directorate and met with media representatives
Minister Dönmez made the following statements about this historic discovery:
"Earlier this week, our president announced this discovery in his Address to the Nation Program after the Cabinet Meeting. Our work in this field goes back to long ago, but the most concrete work started in 2011 after ETIMADEN took over. A total of 125,193 meters of drilling was carried out here in 6 years. 59 thousand 121 samples were collected from the site. These were analyzed and as a result of the analysis, 694 million tons of rare earth elements were discovered. With this discovery, it became the second largest reserve field in the world. The largest field has a reserve of 800 million tons in a field in China. In Turkey, we have a reserve of 694 million tons in Eskişehir Beylikova.
Extremely valuable elements. Since they are not found everywhere in the world, access to them is not that easy. We are talking about substances used in highly strategic, technological products. They are used to a greater or lesser extent in many fields, including the aviation, defense and space industries, as well as the medical industry. We are currently in front of this field. We were just in an exploration gallery behind us with our friends. It is a gallery of about 100 meters.
We will process 570 thousand tons of ore annually. We will obtain 10 thousand tons of rare earth oxide from this processed ore. In addition, 72 thousand tons of barite, 70 thousand tons of fluorite and 250 tons of thorium will be produced. I would like to underline thorium in particular here. We are talking about a mine that will offer us great opportunities as a new fuel in new nuclear technologies. The installation of the pilot plant will be completed this year and we will start production. Within a year, the production results of this pilot plant will be analyzed. After completing this R&D work, we will quickly start the construction of the industrial production facility.
