A corona vaccination obligation for crews is to be introduced at Lufthansa
As already decided with the subsidiary Swiss, a corona vaccination obligation for crews is to be introduced at Lufthansa. "In the future, international flight operations will not be feasible for aircraft crews without a corona vaccination." Because states also require pilots and flight attendants to provide proof of vaccination, said a Lufthansa spokeswoman. The airline wants to negotiate an agreement with the staff representatives that will make vaccination a prerequisite for flight operations. This will not apply to the employees on the ground - and also not to the passengers.
According to Lufthansa, there are already destinations in the network with
Baku in Azerbaijan and Hong Kong (from September 1) that require proof of vaccination. Up to now it has been the responsibility of the crews to meet the entry requirements. For organizational reasons, however, it is necessary for comprehensive crew planning that all flight personnel are vaccinated.
The Lufthansa cheap subsidiary Eurowings said it would also approach its staff representatives to start talks for corresponding agreements. The Swiss airline Swiss is introducing compulsory corona vaccination from mid-November. According to the employment contracts at
Swiss, this option is already possible, said the Lufthansa spokeswoman.
The German airline has to regulate it in company agreements, as they already exist for yellow fever vaccination. For data protection reasons, Lufthansa can only raise the vaccination status if this has also been agreed with the staff representatives. It was already being worked on, it said. The company does not know how many Lufthansa employees have been vaccinated.
In the end, however, it was said that the vaccination readiness was high. At the Austrian subsidiary Austrian Airlines, around nine out of ten employees are already vaccinated against Corona voluntarily.
