A covid passport obligation will apply to all Italian employees

The obligation to prove with a covid passport will apply to all Italian employees. Such a measure was approved by the local government before. For non-compliance, workers face heavy fines. This is one of the most stringent measures against coronavirus in Europe. The regulation will apply to both the private and public sectors. The obligation will take effect on October 15 and should remain in force until the end of this year. The move aims to increase vaccination coverage in the country and reduce the potential increase in infection. All employees will need to prove with a certificate that they have been vaccinated against covid-19, have had an illness or have a negative test. The new regulation will affect around 18 million workers in the country. For non-compliance, employees face a fine of up to 1,500 euros. Employers will have to check certificates, they risk sanctions of up to 1,000 euros for non-compliance. For all who cannot be vaccinated, the tests will continue to be free. The Covid Passport was originally designed to make traveling around Europe easier. However, Italy belonged to a group of countries that required certification in places such as museums, gyms or restaurants. In addition, Italy is the first European country to extend covidpas to all employees. The issue of compulsory covid passports divides the Italian public, their vocal opponents being, for example, the head of the opposition Liga Matteo Salvini. Critics say it is a restriction of personal freedoms and a creeping way to force people to be vaccinated against covid. About 65 percent of the population is now fully vaccinated, with 73 percent of people receiving at least one dose of the vaccine. However, the increase in the number of infected people in the country is increasing due to the delta variant. Italy, 60 million, is one of the countries hardest hit by the pandemic in Europe. It has the most victims of Covid-19 after Britain, over 130,000 people have died from the infection.
