A former employee has filed a lawsuit against Starbucks for racism
A former employee of the US branch of Starbucks has filed a lawsuit against his former employer. On several occasions, the customer marked it with the word N. The former employee did not like that no one was solving the problem.
Dayshawn Rodriguez, who has worked at Starbucks for about five years, mentioned in a Connecticut district court that the company had failed to protect him from a customer who racially insulted him several times, reports The Business Insider.
According to Rodriguez, the problems began in October 2019, when he closed the branch while the customer had been in the toilet for some time. According to him, he went to the woman to check the toilet and knocked on the door. She allegedly came out and poked him in the chest with the comment: "Don't chase me, N ....."
Rodriguez informed the
branch manager after the incident. She promised to inform the district manager. However, according to Rodriguez, no one has dealt with this incident much.
With the same lady, Rodriguez had many more "experiences". For example, she once threw a drink at herself. Subsequently, she allegedly claimed that "the black man did it."
The third incident occurred in June 2020, when a woman allegedly refused to be served by this "N ......" Rodriguez informed his superiors about this as well, so that they could start solving the problem. However, according to him, the company did not take any steps and Rodriguez resigned.
He then turned to the US Commission on Equal Employment Opportunities. Rodriguez is now seeking monetary compensation, including compensation for lost wages and monetary compensation for emotional suffering and embarrassment. However, he did not specify the exact amount.
Starbucks told The
Business Insider that it investigated the incident and took corrective action. These include restrictions on the entry of this customer into the company's stores in the area.
