A mistake made her a millionaire!
The erroneous refund changed the woman's life! Crypto.com refunded an Australian user $10.5 million instead of $100. The platform filed a complaint against the user after the 'lucky' woman gifted her sister a $1.35 million villa instead of returning the money.
A mistake made by crypto.com, one of the world's largest
cryptocurrency platforms, dropped like a bomb on Australia's agenda. In the incident that took place in May 2021, an employee of the company, who was supposed to refund $ 100 to a user named Thevamanogari Manivel, put Manivel's account on the payment list instead of a refund. As a result, the 'lucky' user living in Melbourne was credited $10.5 million instead of $100.
The error was discovered during an independent audit in December 2021. However, instead of returning the money, Manivel started spending it with his sister Thilagavathy Gangadory. Crypto.com then filed a lawsuit for the return of the money.
Commenting on the matter, Attorney Justin Lawrence said,
"If you see an amount in your account that should not be yours, it is your duty to warn the sender. If you are holding property that is not yours, this is fraud."
After the first statements, the court adjourned until October.
