According to the EU, Airbnb Must Notify Tax Authorities
The European Union (EU) court has ruled on Airbnb, which provides online booking and accommodation. The EU court ruled that the company must share information with tax authorities in the countries in which it operates.
According to the
EU,
Airbnb should notify tax authorities. The European Court of Justice, the EU's highest court, has decided today in its case against Airbnb Ireland's Brussels Region legislation requiring tax authorities to be informed about tourist transactions.
The court ruled that Belgian legislation, which requires real estate brokerage and electronic accommodation services providers to forward certain details of tourist accommodation transactions to the tax authorities, is not contrary to EU law.
In the said decision, it was pointed out that the current legislation in Belgium is a matter of finance and is not within the scope of electronic commerce directives.
