Airbnb predicts a significant recovery in tourism
The Airbnb accommodation platform expects a significant recovery in tourism in connection with the gradual release of pandemic measures around the world. However, the platform said it is still too early to predict how this segment will fare in the current calendar year. The BBC news portal informed about it.
Last year, the company's revenues fell by 30% to $ 3.4 billion (2.78 billion euros) as millions of people could not travel due to regulations in force regarding the
COVID-19 pandemic.
The company said it had already seen a smaller decline this year, with sales down 22% year-over-year to $ 859 million (approximately € 702 million). However, the result was better than some analysts expected.
"Travel is coming back and we are laser focusing on its recovery," said Airbnb
CEO Brian Chesky. He expects the company to be able to benefit from the pandemic as other more preferred locations emerge among tourists.
At Airbnb, they believe that people are more likely to spend weekends or months away from home.
