Airbus ended up with an operating loss of 510 million euros last year
The European aircraft manufacturer Airbus reported an operating loss of 510 million euros last year. The reason was the unprecedented global decline in air traffic due to the coronavirus pandemic.
However, the company expects to deliver hundreds of aircraft to customers this year and make a profit.
Airbus CEO
Guillaume Faury admitted that the company's performance last year was "far from expectations" and had to be continuously adapted as airlines grounded aircraft in connection with travel restrictions.
Airbus' revenues fell to € 49.9 billion last year from € 70 billion a year earlier. The company delivered 566 aircraft to customers last year.
Faury said that the outlook for "at least" 566 jet deliveries, which remained unchanged from the previous year when demand dropped by 40%, gave investors some insight. The exact level would depend on the demand of the airlines, he said.
Last year, Airbus won orders for 268 commercial
aircraft, compared to 768 in 2019.
