Airlines Will Lose Almost € 18 Billion In 2020 In Europe
The coronavirus pandemic caused high losses to air traffic. In Europe alone, airlines will lose a total of almost € 18 billion in 2020, according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
The number of passengers carried worldwide has dropped by half. As Dušan Tokarčík from the Slovak Training Academy informed, however, despite the crisis, there is still great interest in pilots of transport aircraft.
According to
IATA, six to seven million jobs are at risk in the aviation and related business sectors in Europe.
Stanislav Szabo, Dean of the Faculty of Aviation in Košice, also confirms the long-term problem with the lack of pilots in
Europe. According to him, the requirements of the global aviation market before the outbreak of the crisis recorded an acute shortage of missing pilots, as well as ground aviation personnel.
"We are talking about tens of thousands of people. Although the current crisis has grounded most aircraft, to which airlines have also responded by laying off staff, this does not mean that this has solved the problem," Szabo added.
