Ali Erbaş Made A Statement About Pilgrimage In The Metaverse
Head of Religious Affairs Prof. Dr. Ali Erbaş made an important statement about pilgrimage in the metaverse.
With the spread of cryptocurrencies, metaverse and NFT technologies, their religious aspects has also become one of the topics discussed. Head of Religious Affairs Ali Erbaş attended A Haber yesterday and made a statement on these issues.
Prof. Dr.
Ali Erbaş was asked, "Is it possible to perform pilgrimage on the Metaverse?" Erbaş answered the question with the following:
"There are certain conditions and certain visits to be made in the pilgrimage. They have to be made. The Metaverse only meets the needs of people visually, but it is not a way to worship. It is absolutely necessary to be in Arafat. It is necessary to perform circumambulation. All the conditions of the pilgrimage must be fulfilled there. The Metaverse will enter our lives, but it cannot replace worship. No matter how much it develops, a worship can’t be virtual. Prayer and pilgrimage cannot be done virtually."
In addition, stating that cryptocurrencies are not permissible as of now, Ali Erbaş said:
"As of now, it cannot be said that it is permissible at the moment due to the lack of an environment where people can use
cryptocurrencies safely and because it can cause any abuse and the possibility of harming people to people has not disappeared yet. We cannot say it is permissible because it is unreliable and open to abuse."
