ALIBABA COULD BE NEXT IN THE LINE

The USA took important steps one after another, especially against technology companies in its trade war with China. According to the news in CNN, Alibaba could be next in the line, one of the world's largest retail and internet companies, sanctions and banning moves that started with Huawei and continued with TikTok and WeChat. Alex Capri, a faculty member at the National University of Singapore and a research assistant at the Hinrich Foundation, made an assessment on the subject. Capri said, “We are experiencing a paradigm shift. Geopolitics is currently going through a historical transformation. Washington officials are making further accusations against Chinese technology companies. Unlike ByteDance (owner of TikTok) and Huawei, Alibaba has not expanded much in Western markets. Despite this, the fact that China is the national technology champion is enough for the USA to put it on the target board ”.

TRUMP CALLS 'MY FRIEND' TO ITS FOUNDER, JACK MA

Alibaba has not been threatened by the US so far. In fact, Donald Trump lovingly mentioned Jack Ma, the founder of Alibaba, who announced that he will donate aid materials to his country after the corona virus epidemic, and used the phrase 'my friend' for himself. However, despite this, Alibaba is also on the "mind" of US officials. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo urged American companies to remove "unreliable" technologies owned by China from their systems in a statement last week. In this statement, he also pronounced Alibaba's name. Alex Capri pointed out that companies such as Alibaba are raised in China in a fully protected manner without competing with foreign companies, “This way, they can easily seize market share. However, when they want to open up to foreign markets and compete, they face reaction ”.

IT WILL BE A PROBLEM IF ALIBABA LEAVES US TECHNOLOGY

About 80 percent ($ 73.5 billion) of Alibaba's annual revenue comes from e-commerce and retail sales in China. Therefore, it is not expected to be affected much by possible sanctions of the USA. Even the US sanctions against cloud technology will not be very important for Alibaba, which only gets 10 percent of its revenue from this field. However, there is still a serious danger! If the US decision against WeChat goes into effect, the app will completely separate from US technology. This will deprive Tencent of the software and semiconductors it needs to keep WeChat running. Dan Wang, technology analyst at Beijing-based Gavekal Dragonomics, said: “If a similar decision is taken for Alibaba, it would be a huge blow. The company has huge cloud operations in China and keeps them running thanks to US-sourced semiconductor and software ”.
