Amazon encourages sustainable products by launching a climate-friendly program
As 2020 has brought massive events making the world go through huge changes, it seems it has also brought huge changes to climate with fires and floods dominating most of the countries. But Amazon, the world's biggest online retailer took some precautions in an attempt to contain the situation.
Aiming to help reduce the impact of climate changes and support sustainable development, as well as keeping its commitment to be net carbon neutral by 2040 in mind,
Amazon announced the launch of a climate-friendly program on Wednesday.
With its new program release, Amazon will be able to produce different sustainable products, such as grocery, household, fashion, beauty, and personal electronics.
Customers will see more than 25,000 different products but all with a '
Climate Pledge Friendly' label, Amazon said in a statement.
With such goals, Amazon will be the first major corporation to announce a program like this.
"With 18 external certification programs and our own
Compact by Design certification, we're incentivizing selling partners to create sustainable products that help protect the planet for future generations," Chief Executive Officer Jeff Bezos said.
The Climate Pledge Fund, which the company had said it will be launched in June is a $2 billion venture capital fund that will invest in companies across industries to help reduce the impact of climate change and support sustainable development.
Earlier, Bezos had pledged to make Amazon net carbon neutral by 2040 buying 100,000 electric delivery vehicles from U.S. vehicle design and manufacturing startup
Rivian Automotive LLC.
