Amazon moves to remove seat belt alarm blockers in the US
Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) is in the process of removing marketplace listings in the US and UK of products that disable car seat belt alarms, the e-commerce giant said on Friday.
Amazon said it is reviewing these products in all marketplaces and will act accordingly.
"We are in the process of removing products in question that may have missed our checks," a company spokesperson said.
Road safety issues have come to the fore in India after businessman Cyrus Mistry was killed in a traffic accident last weekend. Local media reported that Mistry was not wearing a seat belt, reigniting the road safety debate in the world's fourth largest automobile market.
Indian Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari told Reuters on Wednesday that metal clips available from Amazon can be attached to seat belt slots to disable an alarm that sounds when a seat belt is not worn while driving.
Gadkari also said he had asked the company to take action against such devices. Amazon said it removed the products from its platform a day later.

Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) said on Wednesday it plans to shut down its virtual health service by the end of this year, as a deal to buy a rival provider awaits regulatory approval.
