Amazon will pay the courier a $ 62 million courier dispute
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) announced that US online retailer Amazon will pay nearly $ 62 million to settle disputes over detained drunkenness with drivers of its delivery service. The commission found that Amazon had not paid drivers for almost two years, despite promises.
Amazon did not abandon this practice until 2019, when the company learned that the
FTC was conducting an investigation against it.
"This theft has not gone unnoticed by Amazon drivers. Many of them were angry and confused about what they had told the company, "said FTC spokesman Rohit Chopra in a statement. Nevertheless, Amazon continued to introduce drivers.
Drivers worked for Flex, an Amazon division founded in 2015 that allows people to deliver company shipments in their own cars.
Drivers are independent collaborators in relation to Amazon, not employees.
According to the FTC, Amazon originally promised drivers a salary of 18 to 25 USD per hour.
The company also assured them that the benefits that customers pay through the company's mobile application will be paid in full.
In 2016, however, Amazon reduced the hourly rate for drivers and compensated for the differences.
The company did not inform the drivers of the policy change and thus deprived them of tips in the total amount of
USD 61.7 million, the FTC concluded.
