Anchovy Hunting Ban Extended to January 28
The ban on hunting anchovy was extended to January 28. The ban started on January 8th.
According to the decision taken by the
Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the ban on commercial anchovy hunting was extended. The ban had started in the Bosphorus and a large part of the Black Sea for 10 days from January 08, 2021.
During this process, scientists, fishermen, fishing organizations and other stakeholders of the sector made an assessment with the research and examinations conducted by the General Directorate of Fisheries and Aquaculture. As a result of the evaluation, it was concluded that a large part of the anchovies found in the Turkish territorial waters of the Black Sea were still below the catchable minimum length and there was no increase in meat yield.
In addition to this, other than the current
anchovy herds, no other flock entry was detected in accordance with the minimum catchable length and meat yield criteria.
Ban is Extended to January 28
Due to the aforementioned reasons, it has been decided to extend the period of stopping the anchovy fishing for commercial purposes with all kinds of fishing gear in the territorial waters from Istanbul's Sarıyer District Kumköy Aslan Point in the Black Sea to the Georgian border until January 28, 2021.
Until January 28, hunting of anchovy herds of minimum fishing length was allowed in areas other than those we just mentioned.
On the other hand, those who sell fish below the legal size limit, especially anchovy, will not be allowed to pass. If there is no change in the situation, the restriction will continue for another 10 days.
