Apple Watch, the first watch launched by Apple in 2014, sold over 30 million units last year. This figure is over 21.1 million sold by the Swiss watch industry, which is the center of traditional watch production last year.
Apple surpassed the entire watch industry of Switzerland, the locomotive of watchmaking, in the number of Apple Watch sales in the wearable technology products segment.
According to the Swiss Watch Industry Federation (FHS) data, manufacturers in the country produced 21.1 million watches in 2019, of which 20.6 million were exported to other countries. Apple, on the other hand, sold 30.7 million smartwatches, according to the market research firm called Strategy Analytics.
The report stated that analog watches are still very popular among older users, while the trend towards smart and electronic watches among young users is very strong.
Although traditional watch manufacturers such as Tissot, Tag Hauer, and Swatch offer products for the smartwatch market, users prefer technology-oriented companies such as Apple and Huawei. The export of Swiss producers has also been negatively affected by the situation and lost more than 13 percent in terms of units, but increased by 2.6 percent in value compared to the previous year.
