According to the data released by the IDC research firm, Apple, which sold more than 90 million phones in the last quarter of 2020, increased its phone sales by 22 percent in the last quarter. As a result of these data, Apple's share in the global smartphone market reached 23.4 percent, while China-based Huawei sales recorded a sharp decline. The decline was due to former US President Donald Trump's pressure on Chinese companies.
In the last quarter of 2020, iPhone sales even surpassed the sales of South Korea-based Samsung, the world's top selling phone. Samsung sold 73.9 million phones in the last quarter of the year.
Huawei's sales for the last quarter saw a 42.4 percent decline, and sales fell to 32 million.
In addition, according to the statement made by Apple, the company's revenue, which considered the October-December period of last year as the first quarter of the fiscal year 2021 in its balance sheet, has exceeded $ 100 billion for the first time. The revenue earned by the company between October and December last year reached 111.4 billion dollars, an increase of 21 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. The company generated $ 91.8 billion in revenue in the October-December period of 2019.
Apple's net profit increased by 29.3 percent year-on-year in the same period and reached $ 28.8 billion. The company's earnings per share also increased from $ 1.25 to $ 1.68 during this period.
Apple's smart phone, tablet and computer sales have also increased in the mentioned period. Revenue from iPhone sales increased 17.2 percent year-on-year in October-December peroid last year, reaching $ 65.6 billion.
In the same period, iPad sales increased by 41.1 percent to $ 8.4 billion, and Mac sales increased by 21.2 percent to $ 8.7 billion.
