Bank of Japan Is Preparing for Digital Yen!
The Bank of Japan will begin digital currency tests this spring.
Haruhiko Kuroda, director of the Bank of Japan (BOJ), said that the central bank must prepare extensively for the possibility of issuing a digital yen in the future.
The BOJ currently has no plans for the launch of the central bank digital currency (CBDC), but Kuroda believes preparations should begin in the spring for a change in circumstances that may entail it, Reuters reported on Tuesday.
At a seminar, Kuroda said,"In terms of ensuring the stability and efficiency of general payment systems, it is important to make thorough preparation to enter the market in accordance with changes in conditions."
Neighboring China's plan to issue its own digital yuan is firmly established through public trial phases.
South Korea is also working on a digital coin and has published a research for its project, which is expected to be tested later this year.
The BOJ will begin digital yen experiments this spring.
