BBC had obtained a copy of the complete version of the post-Brexit trade agreement

The British BBC announced on Friday that it had obtained a copy of the complete version of the post-brexit trade agreement between the United Kingdom and the European Union. The agreement allegedly goes beyond the framework of an agreement such as the Euroblock with Canada, writes Reuters. The 1246-page document, which, according to the BBC, defines every aspect of trade relations between London and Brussels, contains around 800 pages of annexes and appendices. One of the annexes talks about the compromise reached by both parties on the issue of electric cars. According to the BBC, this is a clear commitment not to relax from environmental standards related to climate change, as well as enforcement mechanisms. However, if "significant differences" occur in the future that could affect trade, both parties have the right to reconsider the agreement. UK and EU negotiators reached a long-awaited trade agreement to settle relations on Thursday. The ambassadors of the 27 EU Member States now have to decide whether the terms of the treaty are acceptable to their respective countries. The British Parliament plans to vote on the ratification of the agreement on 30 December. MEPs are expected to approve the treaty, as the transitional period during which Britain remains part of the single market and the customs union will end on 31 December. The European Parliament will most likely decide to ratify the trade agreement in the new year. The agreement will allow duty-free and quota-free trade after 31 December 2020, as well as cooperation in areas ranging from security to aviation.
