Biden boom versus Trump turbo in the stock market

When Donald Trump was still allowed to tweet, he warned urgently against the election of Joe Biden with a view to the stock market: the stock market would implode if Biden won. The closer the election date got, the higher the frequency of the tweeted doom scenarios. The crash did not materialize, however. Biden has been US President for almost 100 days. For Trump, the development of stock market prices is one of the most telling yardsticks for success - and things are not looking particularly good here for the ex-president, who celebrated price records as confirmation of his policy. "The Dow Jones has just closed over 29,000 points. You are so lucky to have me as President," he cheered last September. The index is currently above the 34,000 point mark. In other words: the Dow Jones has risen by 13.7 percent since Biden took office, and in the first three months of Trump's tenure it was up 5.4 percent. The picture is the same with the other standard Wall Street index. The S&P 500 has so far climbed 12.1 percent under Biden, and 4.6 percent under Trump over the same period. Regardless of what stock markets actually say about the success or failure of a presidency, and regardless of what influence presidents have on share price development, the Dow Jones climbed a whopping 63 percent throughout Trump's term in office. However, Trump has to admit defeat to his two Democratic predecessors, Barack Obama and Bill Clinton. In Obama's first term in office, the index rose more than 81 percent, and Clinton around 79 percent. However, Trump is ahead of other Republicans: George Bush Sr.'s index performance is almost 48 percent and Ronald Reagan's almost 39 percent. On the other hand, things are looking very bad for George W. Bush: In his first term in office, the Dow Jones fell by more than 13 percent in view of the financial crisis.
