Biden Remains Tough Against China
Biden remains tough against China. US President Biden signed the list targeting China.
US President Joe Biden continues former President Donald Trump's tough stance on China. Re-implementing the investment ban decision taken during the Trump era, Biden signed the investment black list.
The decree, signed by
Joe Biden on Thursday, includes 59 Chinese defense and surveillance technology companies. Contrary to the previous decisions, this time the subsidiaries of the companies will not be affected by the said decision.
With the signed decree, the United States will retain the right to block any investment in Chinese companies that could threaten democratic values or national security. Chinese stock markets started fast on Friday, while companies blacklisted by Biden were mixed with the first transactions.
US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, who was tasked with drafting the list, spoke by phone for the first time this week with Chinese Vice President Liu He. In the statement made by the Ministry of Commerce of China on Thursday, there were statements that the meeting was professional, optimistic and constructive.
On Friday, China called for the withdrawal of the blacklist, which could harm relations with the United States.
