Bitcoin miners prefer renewable energy. 76 percent of BTC miners use renewable energy.
With the recent increase in the energy demand of cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin (BTC), a study has been conducted on the subject. As a result of the 3rd Global Crypto Asset Benchmarking Study by Cambridge University, it was determined that 76 percent of crypto money miners prefer renewable energy sources.
With this research, it was determined that more than 39 percent of the total energy consumed by PoW cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, Ether (ETH) and Bitcoin Cash (BCH), was provided by renewable energy sources.
Cambridge University, in its previous research, revealed that only 28 percent of the energy resources spent in crypto money mining are renewable energy. In 2018, this rate was around 60 percent.
In the latest research, it was observed that the most used energy source by miners is hydroelectric power. While 62 percent of the miners are stated to use hydroelectric power, coal comes in second place with 38 percent; It was noted that natural gas took the third place with 36 percent.
Wind power, oil and solar energy are among the other common energy sources used by cryptocurrency miners.
In the report presented by the study, it was written that miners in Asia-Pacific, Europe, Latin America and North America use almost equal amounts of hydroelectric power.
