Brexit Statement from Boris Johnson
Brexit statement came from British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Before the meeting in Brussels where the "ok or go" decision was to be taken, Johnson stated that the possibility of an agreement "now seems very, very difficult".
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson stated that the trade agreement with the European Union (EU) "seems very, very difficult right now".
The EU and the UK are far from the possibility of reaching agreement on key issues ahead of their meeting in Brussels.
Johnson had a telephone conversation with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Monday, stating that there are still "significant differences" in key issues between the two.
The Prime Minister made statements regarding the trade agreement while visiting a healthcare facility on the day that Pfizer and BioNTech's coronavirus vaccine was launched across the UK.
Commenting on the matter, Johnson said, "You must be optimistic, but I have to tell you that (agreement) seems very, very difficult right now." He said, "We will do our best. Be of good cheer, we have great options for our country. "
Johnson and von der Leyen plan to meet in person in Brussels in the coming days, hoping they can make progress on the agreement.
