British chains are reporting a shortage of Harry Potter collectibles
Delays in British ports have a serious impact on retailers. They warn that people may have a limited selection of toys at Christmas and will probably pay extra for them. For example, British chains are already reporting a shortage of supplies of Harry Potter collectibles.
"Brexit struck first, then the pandemic. Due to the combination of both manufacturers, they got scared, the work stopped, it was not possible to transport large containers by sea, "says Elvijs Plugis, co-owner of the House of Spells store in London, which sells collectibles and film replicas.
"Harry Potter's wand sold for £ 20, now it will be £ 35 to £ 40. All stores are running low on supplies, ”adds Plugis. According to him, it is
currently difficult to get a large part of magic wands, but also other official film replicas, including clothes.
The House of Spells store usually sets a 20-30 percent margin on each magic wand. Now, however, they have to pay 25-30 percent more for container transport and also spend 30 percent more on customs duties. "It simply came to our notice then. However, we do not know how long this will be possible, "says Plugis.
Toy Company, which imports toys to the UK, has sold out all its "Potter" collections. In addition, director Joel Berkowitz points out that container prices for the company have increased by 900 percent. At the same time, he points out that the company was stuck in ports with 35,000 toys worth a quarter of a million pounds.
Alan Simpson, CEO of Toytown Toy Store, urges customers to start
Christmas shopping now. He also points to an increase in transport costs, for example, in October, according to him, transporting a truck from the Far East cost 70 pence, now it costs 7 pounds.
According to him, the truck is currently selling for 15 pounds, but the price will need to be increased. Almost half of the price is currently transport costs.
