Chain Split Has Occured in Ethereum
A chain split has occurred in Ethereum. The split occurred as a result of some nodes not being updated.
It has been announced that a chain split has occurred in
ETH due to the failure of some validators (nodes) to update their software.
Due to a bug in older versions of Geth from Ethereum clients, validators using these versions have left the network.
It was reported from Geth's official Twitter account that a fix for a high severity security issue would be released on August 18, and users were asked to update their software to the version that will arrive on August 24. In the statement made in the evening hours, it was reported that a chain split occurred on the ETH mainnet when most of the validators did not upgrade. The statement requested that the validators urgently update their software.
This issue affects Geth versions 1.10.7 and older. According to Ethernodes data, 75 percent of all Ethereum nodes use Geth, and 70 percent of them are running old versions.
However, this is not the first time this issue has occurred on Ethereum. In November, a similar problem occurred because the Geth version was not updated by the nodes. Cryptocurrency exchanges have suspended withdrawals for ETH and ERC-20 tokens due to the issue.
ETH price, on the other hand, is not much affected by this problem. ETH was priced at $ 3 thousand 230 yesterday at 6:30 pm CEST.
According to Geth programmer M H Swende, there is no cause for concern for Ethereum at the moment. Swende stated that most of the miners have updated their software and that the correct chain is the longest chain.
