Chip Shortage Of The Automotive Industry Continues
The chip shortage of the automotive industry continues. The chip crisis of the automotive industry on a global scale is a seriour issue.
Automotive manufacturers such as Ford, Honda, General Motors and Volkswagen that were affected by the chip crisis now includes Stellantis and electric car maker Nio, born from the merger of Fiat and Peugeot. Stellantis and Chinese electric car manufacturer Nio also joined the group of companies that decided to reduce their production due to the global chip supply problem.
Stellantis, which is the result of the merger of Fiat and Peugeot, announced on Friday that it will stop production in 5 factories, two in Canada, one in Mexico and two in the USA, due to the shortage of microchips supply.
While Stellantis did not provide information on how long it will take to suspend production at selected factories, the union club in one of the factory sites announced that the closure of the minivan production facilities would take four weeks.
One of Tesla's competitors in China, electric car maker Nio, has also announced that it will cease production at its Hefei plant for five days, reducing its car production target by 1,000 vehicles in the first quarter.
Volkswagen, one of the companies that made a statement on Friday, also announced that certain models will not be produced at its Mexican facilities during the Easter period.
Ford,
Honda, General Motors and Volkswagen were among the automakers affected by the chip crisis, while Oyak Renault and Tofaş in Turkey announced that they would suspend production.
