Companies In Germany Can Get More Help From The Government
Companies in Germany, which have been hit hard by the so-called corona crisis, can get more help from the government from Wednesday.Economy Minister Peter Altmaier has announced the second tranche of funds to overcome the problems.Companies can apply for subsidies for fixed operating costs, such as rent, in the period from September to December, the statement said. However, they must be able to demonstrate significant revenue losses in order to be eligible for government assistance.Help is also available for business owners affected by local restrictions, such as hygiene and distance rules."We will not leave our businesses alone in a crisis," Altmaier said. The German federal and regional governments have already agreed to extend the aid for half a year, until the end of June 2021.
Approximately € 25 billion has been earmarked for the emergency program. Its aim, together with the government's employment support scheme, kurzarbeit, is to prevent a wave of insolvency after a pandemic plunges Europe's largest economy into recession.
According to the Ministry of Economy, only 1.2 billion euros have been paid so far.
The ministry recalled that approved funding could help companies relocate some operations during the fall and winter months to prevent the spread of infection, for example to warm-up tents.
Germany currently records more cases of coronavirus daily than at the beginning of the pandemic in March, although testing has increased significantly since then.
According to the Robert Koch Institute, 380,762 cases of infection and 8,875 deaths have been confirmed so far.
