Construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline continues
Nord Stream 2 AG announced on Saturday that it is continuing construction of the disputed German-Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream 2.
A spokesman for the company leading the project said the DPA reported.
The company announced on Saturday evening that work was continuing in accordance with the issued permits.
The construction of the gas pipeline, which is to lead almost twice as much Russian gas to Germany after the Baltic Sea Day, was resumed last December, after almost a year during which construction work was suspended due to US sanctions. In Germany, the North Stream 2 is to provide affordable energy.
However, the project has been criticized by the United States and several European countries, including Poland. France last called on the German government on Monday to cancel the project in protest of the detention of Russian opposition politician
Alexei Navalny. However, Berlin has confirmed that it has ambitions to complete this project.
Critics of the project say it will increase
Germany's and the EU's dependence on gas supplies from Russia. This argument has been repeated in recent days by the administration of the new US President Joe Biden.
