US and Japan Cooperation. Japanese Finance Minister Suzuki met with US Treasury Secretary Yellen in the capital Tokyo. Among the decisions taken after the meeting, it was reported that these two countries will cooperate in the fight against global crises.
"At a time when the international community is facing so many challenges, it is more important than ever for the US and Japan to work together," said Japanese Minister Suzuki.
Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said that the two major governments, the US and Japan, have "shared perspectives and interests" on issues related to global stability and prosperity, underlining that the two countries will be more "effective" in global politics if they cooperate.
Noting that the sanctions against Russia, which declared war on Ukraine, should be applied more frequently, Secretary Yellen said that they hope to secure the support of Japan and other countries for the planned price cap on Russian gas.
At the G7 Summit in Bavaria, Germany, earlier this summer, it was noted that steps could be taken to ban the transportation of Russian oil sold above a certain price.
