Iran, the Ministry of Mining, Trade and Industry has licensed 30 cryptocurrency mining facilities. According to the news of the Financial Tribune, one of the local news outlets, the state of Semnan was recorded as the state with the most licenses, with six licensed cryptocurrency mining facilities. It was followed by provinces such as Alborz, Mazandaran, East Azerbaijan and Zanjan. In the capital Tehran, only one cryptocurrency mining facility was approved to operate.
The Iranian government granted these permits while strict measures against illegal miners continue in the country. Iran approved
cryptocurrency mining as a legal activity two years ago. The government has prepared a licensing application for companies that want to get involved in the industry. Last summer, it was stated that 14 Bitcoin mining facilities were operating under this license.
In late May, cryptocurrency mining was banned in Iran until September 22, following power outages in major cities. About a week after this decision, President Hassan Rouhani demanded the legalization of cryptocurrency activities in the country.
