The U.S. Office of Commerce has announced that France will impose a 25 percent customs tax on nearly $ 1.3 billion of French products in retaliation for the digital service tax that France applies to some American technology companies.
In the statement shared by the office on the subject, it was stated that the digital service tax that France started to implement is a "discriminatory" regulation and limits the US trade.
In the statement, which stated that it was decided to apply 25 percent customs duty on French products worth approximately 1.3 billion dollars within the scope of retaliation, it was announced that the said customs application would enter into force on January 6, 2021.
It was stated in the communiqué that products such as cosmetics and handbags will also be included in the application.
Among the tax-affected companies in France are technology companies such as Google, Facebook, Apple and Amazon.
