Daimler limits production in another plant due to a lack of chips
German carmaker Daimler will reduce production and reduce the number of working hours in the second plant.
The reason is the worldwide shortage of chips, for which other carmakers have also announced production restrictions.
As Handelsblatt reported on Thursday, citing unnamed sources from the company,
Daimler will reduce production at the
Bremen plant, and it is possible that the company will close it for a few days in early February. On Tuesday, Daimler announced that it was reducing the number of working hours at its plant in Rastatt.
Several automakers, as well as consumer electronics manufacturers, are experiencing a shortage of chips. The reason is the rapid recovery of consumer demand from the decline caused by the new coronavirus pandemic.
Volkswagen has similar problems on Wednesday, announcing on Wednesday that it will further reduce production at its main plant in Wolfsburg.
Subsequently, according to Reuters, Volkswagen's daughter Audi announced on Thursday that it would reduce the working hours of 10,000 employees at the plants in Neckarsulm and Ingolstadt. From next week until the end of January, production will be partially shut down.
