Delta Airlines plans to hire 1000 pilots
The US airline Delta Airlines, which has been hard hit by the corona pandemic, is looking for staff. More than 1000 pilots are to be hired by next summer, according to a memo by the company, on which the Reuters news agency cites.
Delta expects the volume of leisure travel in the US to return to pre-pandemic levels this month and that business travel will pick up again, wrote CEO John Laughter to employees. The Atlanta-based airline expects to ease restrictions on transatlantic travel in the second half of the year.
Delta had started the new year miserably. In the three months ended March, the company suffered a net loss of $ 1.2 billion. In the first quarter of the previous year, the airline had made a profit of 730 million dollars, the corona crisis did not have such a strong impact at the time. But in the past few weeks the business had regained momentum. The figures for the second quarter are not yet available.
The airline will require corona vaccinations for new hires in the
USA in the future. The company described the decision as an important step to protect its employees and customers. Delta does not prescribe such vaccinations for its previous employees, but according to the airline, more than 60 percent of the workforce have already received them.
It has not happened often that US companies require employees to have
corona vaccinations. Companies not only risk criticism from vaccination opponents and skeptics, but also, according to legal experts, anti-discrimination lawsuits. As a rule, employers therefore rely more on incentives such as bonuses.
