Deutsche Bank lowered its growth forecast for the eurozone economy
Deutsche Bank lowered its growth forecast for the eurozone economy by as much as 1 percentage point. It cited anti-
pandemic restrictions and their consequences as a reason. Forecasts for Britain, the US and India, by contrast, have increased.
Deutsche Bank currently expects the euro area's gross domestic product (GDP) to grow by 4.6% this year, while it expected 5.6% in November. According to the bank, British GDP should rise by as much as 5.7% this year, and not by 4.6%.
"Thanks to the UK's excellent vaccination program, we could see a gradual easing of restrictions during the first half of the year, which could result in very strong growth in the second quarter and a robust third quarter," Deutsche Bank said. The bank's experts added that this would mean that British GDP would reach 98% of the pre-pandemic level.
For the
US, the bank raised its growth forecast to 6.6% from 4% and for India to 10.2% from 7.9%. Deutsche Bank currently expects the global economy to expand by 6.8% this year.
