Developing Countries Will Receive $ 12 Billion To Buy And Distribute Vaccines
The World Bank has approved $ 12 billion in financial assistance to developing countries to support their purchases and distribution of coronavirus vaccines, tests and drugs. The bank's goal is to support the vaccination of one billion people.
The $ 12 billion aid is part of a wider World Bank package of up to $ 160 billion to help developing countries fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
"We are expanding our approach to tackling the COVID-19 emergency situation so that developing countries have equal access to vaccines," World Bank chief David Malpass said in a statement.
"Access to safe and effective vaccines and a strengthened delivery system is key to changing the evolution of the pandemic," he added.
The World Bank further stated that it would benefit from the knowledge and experience of its participation in many large-scale immunization programs.
