The founder of the grocery chains Lidl and Kaufland, Dieter Schwarz, is the richest German with an estimated fortune of 41.8 billion euros, according to a report. With a turnover of 113.3 billion euros, the Schwarz Group is also the largest family company in the country, as reported by "Welt am Sonntag". Behind the 80-year-old in second place is the Reimann family (Coty, Jacobs Douwe Egberts) with an estimated total assets of 21.45 billion euros.
The Wolfgang Porsche family (Porsche, VW) came in third with 20 billion euros. According to the report, the corona crisis has so far had little impact on the top German assets: the wealth of the 1000 richest Germans' belongings totaled 1.1 trillion euros, which is 0.76 percent more than in the previous year. A total of 251 billion assets were determined in Germany - eight fewer than in the previous year.
Only 339 of the 1000 assets examined have shrunk - by a total of 46.9 billion euros. However, they only increased in 122 cases. At 55.4 billion euros, the growth far exceeded the losses. While assets in mechanical and plant engineering, non-food retailing, automotive suppliers or tourism fell sharply in some cases, they increased disproportionately in other industries due to the corona, such as information and medical technology, the pharmaceutical industry and online trading.
All wealth data in the ranking of the 1000 richest Germans are estimates. The basis of the survey is research in registers, archives and document collections, with asset managers, financial experts and economists, with lawyers and representatives of the ranking itself. Among other things, share capital, companies, investments, real estate, but also art collections and family foundations were evaluated.
