Disney Confirms Metaverse Interest with CEO!
According to Disney's CEO, the company continues to explore and develop its plans for the Metaverse. Speaking at Disney's D23 Expo fan meeting, Walt Disney Co's Chief Executive Officer Bob Chapek said the 98-year-old company is examining how to utilize advancing technology.
Big companies like Disney need to be one step ahead of current trends. The speech of the company's CEO confirms this thesis. By planning for the future, companies can set standards for their competitors. According to the statements, Disney has been researching how to utilize the Web3 world since last year. For example, earlier this year Disney hired Mike White to lead its newly formed Next Generation Storytelling and Consumer Experiences unit. They also announced the hiring of Mark Bozon to lead their Metaverse creative strategy. Before joining Disney, Mark spent 12 years at tech giant Apple.
In an interview at the Disney convention, CEO Chapek made a statement about Metaverse. He said, 'Disney is absolutely a lifestyle. The question is, how does our next generation of storytelling use what we know about a guest in a unique way in this Disney lifestyle. And how it then delivers unique experiences,' he said.
The CEO stated that Disney wants to use data from the physical and digital worlds to drive its Metaverse policy. In addition, data from theme park visits and consumer streaming habits are controlled with a special formula. These are the two sectors Disney is looking at in their Metaverse strategy. Disney has repeatedly described its Metaverse vision as the next generation of storytelling. And next year, the famous company will launch it.
Disney has also been active in the NFT space. Working with VeVe, the NFT marketplace, it launched the 'Golden Moments' collection. This was followed by Spiderman, Mickey Mouse, Marvel, Pixar collections and more. NFTs are a sector that entertainment giant Disney is keen to dominate. Indeed, the iconic company has been active in the NFT space for some time. And the company has many plans to expand the House of Mouse's efforts in the world of digital assets and the Metaverse.
Disney, the most recognized entertainment brand worldwide, was first founded in 1923 by The Walt Disney Company, the creator and owner of some of the most beloved IPs in existence. In 2021, as NFTs grew in popularity, brands began launching their own NFT collections. Brands have also taken a few different approaches on how they entered the space. While some have realized their own collections, many have opted to partner with Web3 local companies.
