Due to increased demand, SunExpress is expanding its fleet
SunExpress, one of the popular airline companies, announced that it will add 6 planes to its fleet by leasing 6 planes with their pilots due to the increasing demands this season. In addition, it announced that they will make operational leasing with plus 2 aircraft.
SunExpress Airlines CEO
Max Kownatzki stated that they have reached a record level in booking numbers. Explaining that they were above 2019, Kownatzki announced that they would add 8 more aircraft to the fleet to respond to the increasing demand. Businessperson Kownatzki stated that they will rent 6 planes together with their pilots and add a fleet, adding that they will also make operational leasing with 2 planes.
Noting that SunExpress has increased its fleet to 67 with 9 aircrafts purchased from Boeing, and that they aim to increase the number of passengers from 6 million last year to 10 million this year, Kownatzki stated that the booking activity shows that this target will be achieved.
'War has increased fuel costs'
Kownatzki noted that the Russia-Ukraine war had little operational impact on them, but that they, like all airline firms, were affected by the negative consequences of rising fuel prices. He added that Turkey's ceiling price of 799 liras did not cover the increased fuel costs.
"We want a higher ceiling price, but not to increase our profits, but to compensate for increased fuel costs," Kownatzki said.
Expressing that they are planning 8 new routes and an additional 4,000 flights from Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport this summer, Kownatzki noted that they have established new connections to Milan, Tel Aviv, Manchester, Beirut, Nantes, Budapest, Skopje and Mardin.
