ECB Members Can Extend Outbreak Bond Purchases by 1 Year
ECB members can extend their outbreak bond purchases for 1 year. Speaking to Bloomberg, officials said the majority of the governing council would support a 12-month extension, although some individually opted for a 6-month extension.
According to sources close to the subject that made a statement to Bloomberg, members of the
European Central Bank (ECB) may agree to extend the epidemic bond purchase program for one year until mid-2022, if the board of directors has an offer next week.
According to the information obtained, some officials personally prefer a 6-month extension. Despite this, it was learned that the majority of the management council members would support the 12-month extension.
On the other hand, it is quite possible to oppose this decision, as some ECB members put forward an unstable assumption of the economic outlook after the coronavirus outbreak in mid-2022. Officials say ECB President Christine Lagarde may find it difficult to reach the necessary majority in the council, which has 25 members.
