Employees Of The Italian National Lottery Company Won A Total Of 24 Million Euros In Fraud
Twelve current and former employees of the Italian national lottery company won a total of 24 million euros in fraud, the DPA agency reported on Thursday, referring to the Italian financial police.
Police seized more than € 27 million worth of assets from 12 people involved in the fraud.
Police still investigate them for fraud, hacking, stolen trafficking, and money laundering.
The alleged fraudsters first penetrated the company's internal computer systems, from where they found out where the winning draws had gone.
Subsequently, between 2014 and 2019, they bought four of them.
The first two scratch cards were worth five million euros each and the remaining two were seven million euros each.
In circumventing the company's rules prohibiting employees from participating in
lottery games, they took over their illegal winnings through relatives or close friends, with whom they later shared the winnings.
