Bank of England Raises Policy Rates Once Again
To combat inflation, the Bank of England decided to increase the policy rate by 25 basis points. Thus, the policy rate was increased to 1.25% in the UK, which decided to continue its tightening policy for the 5th time in a row.
The Bank of England Has Once Again Raised Rates. The US Federal Reserve (Fed) announced its highly anticipated interest rate decision yesterday and went to the highest increase in 28 years. After the Fed's 75 basis point increase, many central banks took parallel decisions today.
One of them was the Bank of England. The bank increased the policy rate by 25 basis points to 1.25%.
It was learned that 6 officials voted for 25 basis points at the meeting, while the other 3 officials voted for 50 basis points.
In a written statement made after the meeting, it was stated that "we will be particularly alert to signs of more persistent inflationary pressures" and "will act strongly in response if necessary."
Decision to Increase Interest from Switzerland after 15 Years
The Swedish Central Bank also announced today that it will raise interest rates. In its decision statement, the Swiss National Bank (SNB) reminded that it was the first rate hike after 15 years, and it increased the policy rate by 50 basis points to minus 0.25 percent.
