Bitcoin Has Turned 13
The largest cryptocurrency, Bitcoin, has turned 13. Bitcoin Genesis Day took place on January 3, which is celebrated as Bitcoin's birthday.
Since the first Bitcoin (
BTC) block, Genesis, was released on January 3, 2009, it is celebrated annually as Bitcoin Genesis Day. The first addresses to celebrate Genesis Day this year were Asian markets and Hong Kong's Bitcoin Association, with the effect of the time difference.
What Is Bitcoin Genesis Day?
On January 3, 2009, an anonymous Satoshi Nakamoto published the Genesis block containing the first 50 Bitcoins on Sourceforge. Bitcoin's initial block is known as the first step that paves the way for the blockchain to be used in peer-to-peer value transfers. So, January 3, we can say is Bitcoin's birthday, and as of 2022, BTC is 13 years old.
The Bitcoin Association used the following statements in its post on the subject:
“Happy Genesis Block day! Today Bitcoin is 13 years old. Plus, it's a great day to withdraw funds to a wallet you own and control!”
Satoshi Nakamoto started working on the Bitcoin whitepaper in 2008. On October 31, 2008, the whitepaper was published and the world met the leading crypto Bitcoin (
BTC).
