Bitcoin Mining Restarted in Iran

Bitcoin mining has restarted in Iran. In the country, Bitcoin mining was previously banned in May.

Bitcoin mining has officially resumed in Iran. After the power cuts in May, then-president Hassan Rouhani announced that mining activities were banned until the end of September. Although the illegal mining activities in the country were much higher than the licensed ones, these miners were also held responsible for the cuts and a ban was eventually imposed. It is stated that 85% of mining operations in Iran are illegal. After that, licensed miners will be able to continue their activities without any problems. Earlier in the week, the country's security forces launched a major operation and ASIC devices were seized in many places, including abandoned factories and homes. But the most resonant among them were the devices found in the Tehran Stock Exchange building. After the captured machines, Ali Sahraee, who has been the CEO of the stock market since 2018, resigned from his position. In the official statement made by the exchange, it was stated that the devices were there for a research project. In Iran, where 30 cryptocurrency mining facilities were licensed in June, the National Tax Office prepared a draft law on the taxation of cryptocurrency exchanges.
