CHP Deputy Chairman Ahmet Akın: ''Hidden Hike!''
Ahmet Akın, Deputy Chairman of the Republican People's Party (CHP), said about the fact that 40 percent of the natural gas consumed by BOTAŞ's Tier-2 subscribers, which represent large industrial facilities, will now be billed according to the daily reference price announced in the natural gas market at EPİAŞ: "The AK Party government is searching for and finding formulas on how to hide the increases from our citizens and implementing them. It is making a hidden hike on top of the hike."
CHP member Ahmet Akın said, "BOTAŞ, which is obliged to protect and protect the citizen, not the government, and to be transparent, presents the hike to the citizen with fancy phrases such as 'new price mechanism', 'goal of becoming an energy center', 'sustainable and predictable price structure'. The AK Party government searches for, finds and implements formulas on how to hide the hikes from our citizens. It adds a hidden hike on top of the hike. The AK Party government does not take a step back from its ruthlessness." The vice president continued his words with the following statements: "According to the new mechanism and tariff application, the price of natural gas to be consumed by various business sectors other than electricity generation has changed from sector to sector. In tourism, the gas price for accommodation facilities was increased by 25 percent. Hotels, holiday villages, boutique hotels, private accommodation facilities, motels, hostels and apart-hotels will face a 25 percent higher invoice in October 2022 compared to September, even if their consumption amounts remain the same. The hike in industrial natural gas is like a puzzle. Industrial consumers, called Tier-2 consumers, will be charged the price in the tariff for 60 percent of their actual gas consumption, except for electricity generation. The arithmetic average of the Daily Reference Prices (GRF) formed in the first 25 days of September 2022 in the Organized Wholesale Natural Gas Sales Market (OTSP) operated by EPİA޸ will be applied. This means the following. With the October tariff, consumption above 60 percent was adjusted to the GRF average of the first 25 days of September. When we calculate it, it is 26 TL. This means a 9.8 percent increase for the part above 40 percent. When we look cumulatively, it means a 5 percent increase. In the production of gold, aluminum, copper, boron, zinc, iron/steel, silver, chromium, lead and magnesium, as well as in the oil refinery and petrochemical sectors, 26 TL will be applied to the entire consumption of consumers. In other words, the price increase will be 37.3 percent." Akın stated that the hidden hike in natural gas is a harbinger of difficult days in the struggle for the cost of living of citizens.
